About Gardena JCI Kendo Dojo The Gardena JCI Kendo Dojo is dedicated to preserving and promoting the Japanese art of kendo, the “way of the sword,” in a respectful, disciplined, and welcoming environment. As part of the Southern California Kendo Federation (SCKF) and with roots in the pre-World War II Japanese American kendo community, our dojo has long supported students of all ages and levels, from first-time beginners to advanced practitioners.
We believe kendo offers more than just training. Practice develops physical fitness, sharpens focus, and fosters personal growth, all while building a community that learns and improves together. Our dojo is home to members across generations, with many who have trained here for decades and now share the art with new students, creating continuity and depth that enrich every practice.
Why Join Training with us brings a host of benefits: a full-body workout that builds strength, stamina, agility, and coordination; mental discipline, confidence, and self-control; and the opportunity to study a martial art deeply rooted in history and culture. Many members find that the rhythm and challenge of our regular practice carries over into daily life, strengthening focus, patience, and resilience both on and off the dojo floor.
