Yuujou Taiko - Musashi
It's a Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute (GVJCI) tradition that Yuujou Daiko opens our Annual GVJCI Matsuri each year! In 2020, even though we are holding our first virtual matsuri, we continue our tradition with a great Yuujou Daiko performance. Enjoy!
Yuujou Daiko was established in 2012 through our friendship and our passion for taiko. The meaning of Yuujou is "friendship", which is indicative of our camaraderie and shared goals that formed our group. We are comprised of taiko players from all over Southern California who have been in such diverse groups as Hikari Taiko, Kokoro Taiko, Taiko Center of Los Angeles and East LA Taiko.
Since our formation, we have been given tremendous support by the local taiko community and would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation. We are grateful for the encouragement that we have received and hope that through our passion and efforts, we can make significant contributions back to the community.
uujou Daiko is based in South San Gabriel at the beautiful Gedatsu Church Los Angeles and in Gardena at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute.

Harriet Nagata Hula - Waipio Pa Ea Ea
Tomo No Kai (TNK) has been a vibrant program of the GVJCI for over 40 years! Hula is just one of many TNK offerings.
Founded in 1979, Tomo No Kai is celebrating it's 41st year in 2020. Its initial purpose was to give seniors a friendship club to become involved with, but has since become a place of fellowship through an expanding number of activities and classes, including trips to local casinos. Although Tomo No Kai was created to benefit the seniors in the community, they have contributed greatly back to the GVJCI through active volunteerism and monetary donations. All of the membership fees and tuitions are used to continue these activities and classes as well as develop new ones. The Tomo No Kai group is a senior club open to the young at heart that are 50 years of age or more.
