Please enjoy our 2020 GVJCI Virtual Matsuri Fundraiser art gallery! Normally, our Tomo No Kai Senior Oil Painting class puts their amazing art on display for all our matsuri guests to view. This year, we will be putting up new art every day this week, so check back regularly to see more and more wonderful paintings from our students! And thank you to those who submitted their gorgeous art to display for our virtual art gallery!

The Castle in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Japan, 2018-19
Joy Urada, oil on canvas
This is a real castle on the island of Honshu. It has a fascinating history of Samurai, wars, tragedy, heroic historical figures, famous incidents, etc. The original structure was burnt down, but a stronger replica now stands in the small town. Its beautiful gardens contain medicinal plants as well as various other shrubs, trees, and flowers. It is not the most famous, nor the most beautiful, nor the largest castle in Japan but it did play a big part in the country's history.
In our painting class, you will find a very laid-back teacher who lets you choose your project and process. He comes around and helps each student individually to accomplish his goal. The students are of all kinds personalities, and the talk in the classroom is of all subjects, whatever comes off the top of our heads! We all pitch in with food and drink and come and go as we want during the 6 hours the classroom is open to us. It is a friendly, supportive atmosphere.
