2025 YEAR-END RAFFLE & DONATION APPEAL
As we approach this holiday season, we at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute (GVJCI) want to express how grateful we are for the support you give to the GVJCI and the community. GVJCI also owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to our immigrant founders. Their enduring legacy stands as a testament to the power of courage, perseverance, and unwavering dedication in the face of daunting challenges. These immigrant founders established the early Japanese Language Schools (Moneta, Gardena, and Compton Gakuen) in which GVJCI evolved from. Through their hopes, foresight, vision, struggles, and hard work, we exist today as a community center. The current South Bay Nikkei community is multi-faceted and comprises five or more generations, as well as, recent immigrants, mixed-race and mixed-culture. GVJCI continues to evolve serving the changing needs of the community as a gathering place for all to safely and comfortably come together for their cultural, educational, social, and recreational needs.
You, as our supporter and participant, enable us to keep going. Our community center opens seven days a week, morning to night with close to 1,000 people a week coming into our doors for our programs & services, and GVJCI member organizations’ activities. We couldn’t do all that we continue to do without you. We were built by the community, and are truly sustained by the community.
OUR MISSION: A space to engage, share, and embrace the Nikkei experience and culture.
OUR ROOTS: We were formally incorporated in 1967, but our roots in the South Bay trace back over 100 years ago through our Japanese Language School’s legacy.
WHO WE ARE: GVJCI is a nonprofit organization that engages the community to explore the Nikkei heritage, culture, and contemporary issues through a variety of programs and services. Community space is offered to a wide variety of nonprofit cultural, educational and community-based organizations, as well as for private use.
WHY SUPPORT US: We need your support to continue these programs and services, and keep the facilities in good operating condition for the community to use.
2026 RAFFLE & YEAR-END DONATION APPEAL: In 2025, your support helped to defray our ongoing campus expenses of utilities, maintenance, and supplies, and helped to enable us to complete major campus upgrades: more security system upgrades, paint and flooring in the GVJCI Nisei Veterans Memorial Hall, Gramercy Place perimeter fence and gate replacement. Each year, we experience an increase in the amount of major repairs, replacements, and expenses needed for our facilities and campus grounds which will be 61 years old in 2026! We have a wishlist of major building improvements--JCI Building Main Hall upgrades of paint, flooring, ceiling, prep kitchen upgrade, electrical upgrades, and the parking lot repavement. We ask for your help again with this 2026 Raffle & Year-end Donation Appeal!
HOW YOU CAN HELP: There are TWO ways that will help us tremendously.
1) Purchase GVJCI year-end raffle tickets. Ticket cost is $2.00 per ticket or $20.00 per book. Two books will be mailed to all on our mailing list in October 2025.
Enter for your chance to win one of five cash prizes of (2) $250, (2) $500, and $1,000! Raffle drawing will take place on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Participants need not be present to win! One prize per person. Additional raffle tickets can be mailed upon request, please leave a message at 310-324-6611, or you can email us at [email protected].
2) Donate an additional monetary gift, which is tax deductible as a Charitable Contribution. If you would like to see GVJCI continue serving the community of people young and old, please help us along this path by making an additional tax deductible gift of $100, $250, $500, $1,000 or more before December 31st.
Thank you very much for your support that you give to GVJCI. We wish you and your family a healthy and joyous holiday season!
